History

The New York Dragons began to take shape when two of our founding officers shared a meal and began discussing Wrexham AFC and their quest for promotion, along with the town (now City) of Wrexham. While they both started following more closely as they watched the documentary series, “Welcome to Wrexham,” there was also a pull from the story of a club that had been held together by the fans after escaping owners with not-so-honest intentions. As they took a walk through Mount Kisco, New York, USA, following lunch, they kept on the topic of Wrexham AFC, and how exciting it is to follow a team with the hopes of working their way up the Football League.

Many of the Dragons, living an hour or two from New York City, come from different areas, including Northern England and the London area, and most have teams in the Premiership that they have supported for years. However, that support is largely done in isolation, away from the Supporters Clubs that meet only in the city. In conversation, it was realized that this enjoyment of Wrexham and cheering for a team with goals of promotion and growth alongside the city in which it resides was something that a new association could unite over.

Along the way, it was pointed out that a classic British pub was soon opening in the village, and the idea for an official supporters branch, based out of a local pub, in a village that grew during an industrial boom and has struggled with its identity since that collapse, that is close enough to be the home branch for one of the owners when he is in New York, was truly born.

While in the initial stages of develop and hopeful growth, the New York Dragons hope to flip the script on the idea that everyone has to go into New York City to share their love of football and passion for this club. We believe that villages and towns can be true places of gathering and joy, and people from the city are welcome to learn that the train runs in two directions as they come for a pint and the joy that is Wrexham AFC. Up the Town!
