History
Our plan is to use Mac’s Tavern downtown as much as possible. If not we have a pub we can use named Moonshine on Moyamensing ave, just down the street where Rob was born.
The founding started with me, I guess…
I was born and raised in South Philly on Moyamensing Avenue in South Philly. Our house was about 3 blocks away from where Rob was raised. So, of course, I have been an Always Sunny fan and we are Eagles season ticket holders (GO BIRDS!). Like Rob, we were poor growing up and everything was a struggle. The idea of even going to an Eagles game even though we could walk to the stadium was just never possible. I have worked my butt off to make a better life for me and my family. There are only a few times in my life when I have sat back and said, “Wow, look at what I have done”. The first time was when I was able to buy my first season ticket license for the Eagles. The second was in 2023, when I took my then 3 year old daughter, Bodhi, across the ocean to see Wrexham play for the first time.
I reached out on a Facebook group looking for 2 tickets. There, I met Shay Britghman who offered my daughter Bodhi and I 2 seats and would not take a penny. He is now a “Brother from another mother” and my whole family just love him and his.
We arrived at the train station from London and went right to the pro shop and bought some gear. When leaving, I asked where we could get a cab to take us to the hotel. Another local, Shaun Carr, instead took our bags, threw them into the back of his truck and drove us to the Wynnstay where we were staying. We toured the town for a couple days, and went to the Racecourse where the boys beat York City 3-0! Bodhi learned a Wrexham chat or two, met Wrex, and we made about 6 friends that day. We left the grounds fans for life.
I have been back 4 times since then, 2 times with my daughter and 3 times with my partner, Patty and daughter. They become the same level of convert as me, of course.
On the first 2 trips, we were tourists. We would go to all the sights, have toured North Wales, taking in as much as we could and just falling more and more in love with Wales and the people of Wrexham and Wales.
These quick stories are just a few of the dozens of stories I could tell that show the heart, kindness, and strength of Wrexham and its people. Our trips now feel more like we are coming to our second home. Instead of tourist sights, we are in our friends homes, at local restaurants and social events. Our next trip is in November to celebrate David and Elain Williams’ 60th wedding anniversary! David’s father traded his shift to go to a game the day of the mining disaster in 1934. His two sons, Kevin and Anthony are dear friends of mine and we chat almost daily. They are a second family to me along with Shay and others.
David gave me a scarf that is about 30 years old. He made me promise never to wash it so that the “magic” doesn’t wear off. It is one of my most prized possessions… We have dozens of people to see every time we are in town and our travel lives are now planned around Wrexham before anything else.
Patty has been to 53 countries in her 47 years and I am up to about 35 in my 51 years. We are travel fanatics, but have shifted our focus from world travel to spending as much time as we can in what we can only say is the most wonderful town and people we have ever encountered. Wrexham is such a special town and we want to use the group as a way to introduce as many people as we can to this special place and team.
The founding officers and I have been talking about getting a group going for a good 6 months. We decided that after this season we would get it going and focus on growing the group through social media and local meet ups. We plan to do everything we can to start holding watch parties and use the group as a way to raise money for local charities. We are going to designate yearly a charity that we will work primarily to raise money for. We are also hoping on organizing a trip to Wrexham with as many locals as we can for the November trip.
We could not be more honored to start this group and understand the weight of what we want to do. We are so excited to become a part of the Supporters Federation and will do everything we can to represent Wrexham and the Supporters Foundation in the best way possible.
UTST!!!!!
